Semblanza
Fernando Brito (1975) vive y trabaja en la ciudad de Culiacán, Sinaloa, en el noroeste de México. A lo largo de los últimos 15 años, se ha dedicado a documentar, exponer, y denunciar diferentes tipos de violencia sistémica e inseguridad estructural en México. Busca retratar estas problemáticas desde su cotidianidad para resaltar la distancia entre lo que es y lo que deberÃa ser. Su trabajo ha recibido reconocimiento a nivel nacional e internacional. Sus logros incluyen el segundo lugar en “Temas de Actualidad†del Sony World Photography Awards (2012), el tercer lugar en la categorÃa “Noticias Generales†del World Press Photo Competition (2011), el premio de adquisición en la XIV Bienal de FotografÃa del Centro de la Imagen (2010), y el primer lugar en la 12a Bienal de Artes Visuales del Noroeste (2009), entre otros. Del 2018 al 2020 fue becario del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte, del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes de México. Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en el CÃrculo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), The Bronx Documentary Center (Nueva York), Russian Tea Gallery (ParÃs), y el Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto (Trento), entre otros. Sus fotos forman parte de las colecciones de LACMA, Lehigh University Art Museum, el Centro de la Imagen, el Museo de Arte de Sinaloa, el Bienal de Artes Visuales de Yucatán, y otras colecciones privadas.
Bio
Fernando Brito (1975) lives and works in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, in northwest Mexico. Over the past 15 years, he has dedicated himself to documenting, exposing, and denouncing different types of systemic violence and structural insecurity in Mexico. He strives to portray these problematics in their everydayness in order to highlight the distance between how things are and how they should be. He has received recognition for his work nationally and internationally. His accomplishments include second place in “Current Issues†in the Sony World Photography Awards (2012), third place in the “General News†category in the World Press Photo Competition (2011), the acquisition prize in the XIV Centro de la Imagen Photography Biennial (2010), and first place in the 12th Northeast Visual Arts Biennial (2009), among others. From 2018 to 2020, he was a fellow of the SNCA Endowment for the Arts, granted by Mexico’s Art and Culture Commission. His work has been exhibited in el CÃrculo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), The Bronx Documentary Center (New York), Russian Tea Gallery (Paris), and el Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto (Trento), among others. His photos belong to the collections of LACMA, Lehigh University Art Museum, el Centro de la Imagen, el Museo de Arte de Sinaloa, el Bienal de Artes Visuales de Yucatán, and other private collections.
